What happens to your question.

People ask Ask Life things they haven’t told anyone. We built it with that in mind.

How a question is answered

When you press Ask, your question — and the earlier messages in that same conversation, so the answer has context — is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to OpenAI’s API to write the answer. The answer streams back to your screen. We ask OpenAI not to store the exchange for later use in our product, and under OpenAI’s API terms, API data is not used to train their models by default. OpenAI may retain API data for a limited period to detect abuse, as described in its own policies.

What we keep

We do not keep your questions or answers on our servers. We do not log question text. There are no accounts, and you never have to give us your name or email to ask something.

Your current conversation is kept in your browser’s session storage so it survives a page refresh; it disappears when you close the tab or press “New question.” Answers you choose to save are stored only in this browser’s local storage, on this device. Clearing your browser data removes them.

What we count

To keep the free service available, we count how many questions a browser asks each day using a small signed cookie that contains only the date and a number. We also briefly hold a one-way hash of your IP address in memory to stop automated abuse. Neither contains anything you wrote.

Payments

LIFE UNLIMITED and gifts are paid through Stripe, which handles your card details; we never see or store them. To keep your membership on in this browser we set a small signed cookie that holds only your membership reference and its end date. If you use “Already a member?”, we look up your membership in Stripe by the email you used at checkout. Nothing about your payment is connected to anything you ask.

What we don’t do

Your questions never appear in a URL, are never made public, and are never sent to analytics or advertising services. Sharing an answer only happens when you press Share, and only to where you choose to send it.
